High-end fashion label Gucci has received backlash after selling an item, a mask specifically, that can be easily attributed to blackface. The company has rolled out an apology, stating that it was an accident, but the Hip-Hop community is not quick to forgive, specifically T.I.
The King hit Instagram and made sure that he got his feelings about the brand and their “accident” out to his followers: ”As a 7 figure/yr customer &long time supporter of your brand I must say…Y’all GOT US fucked UP!!! APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED,. Our culture RUNS THIS SHIT!!! We (People of color) spend $1.25 TRILLION/year (but are the least respected and the least included)and if we stop buying ANYTHING they MUST correct any and ALL of our concerns. That’s THE ONLY WAY we can get some RESPECT PUT ON OUR NAME!!!!”
Gucci wasn’t the only one who caught some heat from TIP. Prada also was outed for racist designs and called for in a boycott. You can read T.I.’s full statements and the details of the boycott below.
